I was lucky enough yesterday to be invited to see the Zang Toi show--and to go back-stage which was surreal-- at the Mercedes-Benz 2012 Fashion Week and while I didn't think I'd be into it--I mean, I'm someone who anticipates wearing a mu-mu covered in cat-hair in later life, once the dating horsesh*t is done...it was pretty much awesome!
Awesome to be back-stage and see how "the magic" happens; awesome because the client who invited me is a relentless, and hilarious, schmoozer (and a wonderful photographer) and awesome because fashion types are creative types, and it was a nice change to tell people what I do and have them immediately "get it". Usually I get the "Okay, hippie, but what's your real job" look, but people who are paid to create fantasies for a living are pretty open, I suppose. I'm also still laughing that my client introduced me to one of the 'Real Housewives of NYC' and I networked with her, gave her my card...and only later, at home, did it sort of hit me..."Oh, sh*t! I met her...ha!"
Speaking of fantasies: I have never felt so short before. I'm 5'6", but by the end of the day, I felt like an elderly Munchkin, surrounded by towering girls. Hawt, towering girls...well, there are worse ways to spend a Monday, right? There was one male model, and when he was back-stage getting done up, I remember thinking, "Meh." And then on the runway, it was suddenly, "Hello, young man!" He did clean up very nicely. All in all, quite a nice day...and now, that sound you hear is the whip being cracked as I get back to work.
