Channukah Hints, Jewrican Factoids #3: Keep it up!

I know, I know: some of you are rolling your eyes at the obvious nature of this "hint," right? But... is it really obvious? I would argue that given the nature of our microwaveable, drive-through zeitgeist nowadays, a lot of people seem to have missed the point on how success is created. And by "success" I don't mean, making a YouTube video of your puppy that goes viral, or winning a reality show, or live-blogging your sex with a celebrity. (I probably am a little jealous.) No I mean, having a vision of your life and being loyal to that vision till you, slowly but surely, create a life that has value for you. (Dear god, have I already become one of those boring old people, talking about "When I was a kid, we didn't sext, we had to have actual conversations and we took responsibility for our actions, and music had real lyrics, and why is someone like Teresa Giudice on TV?")
Creating the life you desire takes time. You'd think that would be obvious, but no, not so much.
Creating anything important takes time. You have to invest, emotionally and intellectually every single day.
My first play, which won a national contest to be produced Off-Broadway, took almost two solid years of writing and re-writing. Recently, this guy who had written some well, "plays" is too big a word for them, but some arrangements of words in English on paper, in a month, approached me. He was wondering if I could help him get his work produced on Broadway. Oh, I get a kick out of being alive...
I've had clients who "networked" for a month and then would wonder why people weren't blowing up their celly with job offers. Really? Then they stop networking, or whatever it was they were doing, they give up, and say, "I don't know why nothing works for me." That's when I have to take a walk, since murder is wrong, and prison just isn't a good look for me.
So, I implore you, I'm begging you: be patient with yourself and keep at it! Whatever it is you're trying to do--find a good man, write a novel, lose 10 lbs, start a business, learn a foreign language-- keep at it and understand that anything worthwhile takes time. Aren't you and your dreams worth your time?
Jewrican Factoid # 3: In case you're wondering, my father is Jewish, my mother is Catholic, so yes, when they got married in the late 1960s, there was pastrami and arroz con pollo at the buffet.
